Well it’s been awhile, but I’m finally able to provide an update. I’ve been busy all summer getting work done around my house as I will be taking on a new job in Northern Virginia later this month and was prepping the house to put it on the market.o
As far as the golf update goes, it is a big one. I am now down to just 8 states remaining. I’ve just returned from a long, 3 week road trip. The major destination was Arizona to spend a week in Flagstaff. I drove out to Denver where I met up with Maria after she had flown out from Ottawa. We spent a a couple of days in the Westminster/Boulder area and then drove down to Colorado Springs for a couple of days. From there, we drove down to Albuquerque New Mexico to meet up with our good friends Pat and Brian who had flown in to there from Ottawa. Two nights in Albuquerque, then on to Arizona. The four of us spent a week in Flagstaff, venturing out to Sedona, Jerome and a couple of other destinations. While in Arizona, I managed to play 4 rounds. Three at the course affiliated with the resort we were staying at and then a round at a beautiful course in Sedona.
After the week in Flagstaff, we returned to Albuquerque and the girls flew home and then Brian and I continued the road trip, knocking off a number of states on our way back home. I failed to mention that on my way out to Denver, I also managed to play in Illinois and Iowa, as well as around in Sterling Colorado prior to Maria arriving in Denver. With Brian, we managed to play another round in New Mexico at the same course in Raton that I had played a very quick 9 holes at a couple of years ago. After that, we headed due north to Montana, then east taking in the two Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin before heading home.
So as mentioned, I have only 8 states remaining; 4 easy ones and then 4 difficult ones. The easy ones are New York, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. In fact, the last three mentioned could feasibly be accomplished on the same day, if one were to attempt it in late June when daylight is at its maximum. The last 4 will be more challenging, but that was a given from the get-go. Oregon, Washington could conceivably be done on a weekend fly out to Seattle, but obviously Hawaii and Alaska will take some serious planning.
So that’s the quick update. A road trip that totaled 10,800 km’s (6700 miles) and included adding 8 new states to the “played” list, as well as additional rounds in two states I’d played previously. I’ll be adding a number of stories from the road trip over the next while, so please stay tuned.
