Golf Swings Over America

I sit here in my den looking out the window at a vast amount of snow still covering the ground, reflecting on a very busy 2 plus years.  February of 2012, when I first began my quest, seems so far in the distant past now.  Yes, in some ways two years is a long time but I really feel like I’ve been at this quest for at least ten!  I’ve seen a lot of the U.S., dare say far more than the average U.S. Citizen sees! I’ve put a lot of miles on both my own vehicle, as well as a few rental cars.  Thank goodness for those unlimited mileage deals!

Looking back to the beginning, there’s no way in heck I ever would have imagined that I would have played in places such as Utah, Idaho and Wyoming, or Nebraska and Oklahoma.  At least not this early into the allotted time frame.  My vision was to clear all the states along the eastern seaboard first, then slowly work my way west.  Boy did that plan ever go by the wayside fast!  When I have conversations about my quest with people, they are shocked to find out that my list of states played doesn’t include the two closest to me.  I can be playing golf in New York state in a little over an hour’s drive from my home, or in Vermont in just under four.  But there’s a reason for that, at least for New York state anyway. Let’s just say I have a special plan for the Empire State.

So this summer’s plan will include the New England States.  Maria and I are going to try and do a couple of long weekend trips over the summer and hopefully I can fit in a few rounds in a few different states, without making her a complete golf widow on our trips! If I can accomplish that and perhaps knock off Ohio and Michigan with a trip around Lake Erie, then I’ll pretty well have everything east of the Mississippi completed.

For the fall, we’re looking at Arizona.  Of course, if I happen to cash in on the lottery one of these days, all timelines will be bumped up substantially!

But for now, I anxiously await the snow to disappear so we can play some local golf, before heading back out on the road again.
