Mystic Pizza

When I was planning my routing for this 4 state trip, I decided that I would make a home base in one spot.  I generally stay at Marriot affiliated hotels and when I found one along the I-95 in Connecticut near the Rhode Island border I new I was set.

So when I saw the hotel come up as being in Mystic, CT I immediately remembered there being a movie called Mystic Pizza with Julia Roberts.  But I just assumed it was a fictional place.  Turns out, the movie was filmed here, in the actual pizza joint on main street that still exists today.  Of course, I just had to have dinner there last night!  And happy I did.  I put together my own topping list and got a small made to order.

The slogan on the sign reads “A Slice of Heaven”.  I wouldn’t quite go that far, but the pizza was really good!  If you’re a nostalgia buff in any way, it is a mandatory stop in Mystic.  I was really fortunate and got a table right at the front window, with a side view looking straight down the main street.  I can’t tell you how many pictures I photo-bombed waving from the window as tourist after tourist came up to take pictures of the famous landmark.

Downtown Mystic is a great little place with all kinds of quaint little shops and tons of restaurant options.  A great place to spend a day, albeit very touristy!
